William Llewellyn Lectures at Lord’s Cricket
Ground

MESO-Rx
readers may want to listen to a recent lecture by
ANABOLICS 2007 Author William Llewellyn. Llewellyn
was invited to speak at the 2006 National Conference
on Injecting Drug Use (NCIDU06) in London, which
covers issues relevant to the national needle exchange
program in the UK. The conference is attended by
key policy makers, commissioners, and those that
assist injectable drug users in the nation’s many
free needle exchange clinics. The key interest in
having Llewellyn speak at the last conference stemmed
from the growing number of steroid users entering
needle exchange looking for new syringes and (often)
injection assistance. With new steroid users actually
outnumbering those entering with addictions to narcotics,
the conference wisely sought to find someone that
could help them better understand both the scientific
and social aspects of these drugs and their users.
The 2006 conference took place at the Lord’s Cricket
Ground, and Llewellyn presented his lecture on Friday
October 13th, 2006. The
audio was just made available.
Instead of hearing the usual alarmist reports
of the very unrealistic terrors of steroid use,
Llewellyn treated the audience to a truly honest
and balanced assessment of the function, history,
risks, and politics surrounding anabolic steroids.
In a presentation that must have been highly contradictory
to what most were expecting, Llewellyn’s speech
included key points about how the risks of steroid
use were tangible but highly overstated, how rare
forms of cancer, suicide, and violent behavior have
NOT been conclusively linked to steroid use, how
steroids have been in widespread use for more than
70 years and are well (not poorly) understood, how
laws that restrict the supply of legitimate drugs
to users ironically increase their relative health
risks, and, perhaps most importantly, how anabolic
steroids can be used with higher relative safety.
This presentation is 25-minutes of solid steroid
fact, and is an absolute must for anyone that wants
better understand the health and social implications
of anabolic steroid use.
The audio to William Llewellyn’s 25-minute presentation
has just been made public, and can be accessed by
